Anne-Florence Cointreau (1890-1966) was born in Scotland but spent some of her life studying and working in France.
She was a pupil of the British artist Ambrose Mac’Avoy and was elected as an associate of the Societaire des Artistes Francais in 1936. She exhibited at Galerie Charpentier, Paris from 1937 and in 1938/39 she was invited to exhibit with au Salon des Tuileries. She painted mainly using oils and focused on portraits, landscapes and interiors.
She was the wife of André Pierre Cointreau (1888-1963), a politician and heir to the Cointreau liquor family.
The painting was from the collection of Alan Stenhouse Gourley PROI.
